I'll be your subconscious adventure guide!

Imagine how amazing it would feel to overcome persistent challenges and make rapid progress towards a goal you deeply desire to achieve. Through the ritual of hypnosis you can leverage relaxed (alpha and theta) brain-waves in order to increase neuroplasicity and reprogram the subconscious mind on purpose.  This powerful process supercharges all other wellness activities and frameworks for success. Hollywood and historical associations have produced many myths and misconceptions about hypnosis, but let me assure you of a few key points: Ultimately all hypnosis is self-hypnosis in that you remain in control, you choose which suggestions you’re receptive to, how deep into trance you go, and when you come out; it isn’t sleep, it’s not truth serum, and you can’t be stuck in trance. The truth is we all live in various forms of trance already, hypnotherapy helps you to intentionally enter deeper levels of trance and utilizes the very natural state to achieve your desired goals. Some of the common goals accomplished with hypnotherapy include: Restful sleep, increased productivity, improved mood, heightened self-love, enhanced relationship with food or exercise, skilled navigation of relational dynamics, managed and reduced pain, nervous system regulation, and much more. During your session, you receive personalized facilitation and you will learn a self-hypnosis practice that you will carry forth wherever you go and can employ whenever you need to take your power back and return to your desired state. With practice, you develop the muscle of accessing theta brainwaves intentionally in order to improve your life in endless ways. It’s extremely empowering. The level of transformation is still up to you based on your level of desire to allow the process to connect you with your innate capabilities. See for yourself.

“There’s a beautiful verse in the Bhagavad Gita that says: Detachment is not that you own nothing, detachment is that nothing owns you. Usually people see detachment as being away from everything. Actually the greatest detachment is being close to everything, and not letting it consume and own you. That’s real power.” – Jay Shetty

2021 Overview

I am a multipotentialite (someone with many callings).  Most chapters of my life have synthesized and integrated various facets of interest and my background. Up until April 2021, I was a university Learning Specialist and worked one-on-one with students to provide academic coaching using a strengths-based and holistic approach. It was very healing to play this role because I remember wishing I had someone like a Learning Specialist to visit as an undergraduate. I also passionately contributed to the development of curriculum with a special interest in exercise (as a tool for productivity and wellbeing), new technology (namely the ethical and biopsychosocial implications), and the arts (exploring its role in therapy and learning).

I earned my Bachelor’s of General Studies degree at the University of Arizona in 2013, my concentration was on Social Behavior and Human Understanding. Expanding on this theme, I then earned my Master of Social Work (MSW) degree at Arizona State University’s Tucson Component in 2017.

A few extra details about me:

  • I have a background in freelance Multimedia Consulting and Productions, emphasizing graphic design, web design, and video editing. I did this as my main occupation until I realized that what clients often hired me for was my interpersonal, emotional intelligence as well. I begun marrying my focus on new technology to social sciences, which speaks to other aspects of my portfolio.
  • I love road cycling, mountain biking, hiking, and exploring the great outdoors in any number of ways. I have BIG love for our plant and animal friends, mama earth and papa sky! Exercise and fresh air are my favorite elixirs for life.
  • I went to an unorthodox school called Kino for the 12 years leading up to university, graduating high school in a class of 8 people. There were no standardized tests (until the SAT) and no letter grades, it was all qualitative evaluation. Kino helped instill in me a love of learning along with playful curiosity and resiliency.  It was imperfect and hard to transition to university from this environment but wouldn’t trade it.
  • At 19 I began taking medication for ADHD and ever since I’ve been learning about the diagnosis, managing the symptoms, and troubleshooting the side-effects of stimulants until I finally transitioned off of pharmaceuticals in January 2021. Navigating this transition and experimenting with various alternatives was a painstaking process initially but has paid off handsomely in my case. Some people find the benefits outweigh the side effects of ADHD medications, it can be very important medicine but for those who feel there might be another, better way, I’m happy to share my journey and support you in yours.
  • I grew up visiting rehabilitation centers and attending recovery groups as family members had mental health challenges and issues with addiction. I am grateful for these educational exposures despite the inherently troubling aspects of the experiences; learning is a gift even when pain is the teacher.
  • My gratitude is ever expanding for the very talented and loving bunch of people I get to call family.
  • I recognize being in the body I am shapes some of my perspective and I always appreciate gaining understanding for other intersections of identity.
  • I’ve had many privileges that I aim to utilize courageously and pay forward in any way I can.

Multimedia Consulting and Productions

The Arts Meet New Technologies

From 2004 to 2021, a professional background developed in Multimedia Consulting & Productions that included graphic design, art archiving, documentary film productions (especially videography and video editing), web design, and more.

To date, I have worked on more than 30 projects with 20 different clients (a conservative estimate) on an array of projects varying in length (one that has spanned 2009-to present, the only one I’ve carried forward after transitioning in new directions). From one-on-one lessons on family home videos, slideshows, and printed or digital albums, to general computer consulting and project management, to participating as web designer or video producer in project teams within organizations. Throughout many of my jobs I have been made aware that while I am hired for technical tasks, I often get called on for interpersonal skills as well. I am a people person and I love building relationships as well as rendering top quality services and products.

Background

I would call the arts my foundation. I grew up in a very creative family. My mother (while a nurse) is a watercolor painter, my father (rest his soul) was a photographer and metal worker, to name a couple of his “hats.” My mom and her mother (Mama) were founding members of The Drawing Studio (a vibrant artist community in Tucson). I grew up around many creative friends as well as family on both sides.  I have developed my eye for color and detail through a life long creative process, for the love of the journey as well as the joy of meeting the satisfaction of actualizing a vision.

“Only to the extent that we expose ourselves over and over to annihilation can that which is indestructible in us be found.”       ― Pema Chodron

Hold On To Your Heart

My parents were what you could call “early-adopters” when it came to new technologies. I was very privileged to be among the first I knew to own an iPod. When Apple released their G4 computer towers equipped with iMovie video editing software, I was 14 years old and completely smitten with the new world of creativity I had to explore. In many ways I owe my literacy to teachnology. I struggled to learn to read until I was nearly 10 and still didn’t get captivated by reading and writing until I had my own laptop. I certainly owe digital literacy to access.

Early exposures from my life are the underpinnings of many of my research interests. I am especially fascinated with the social implications of the information age. I am working to develop programs that facilitate parents rearing youth with new technologies, for example.

Infusing my passions & strengths into social work

a process of honoring my divergent callings in an integrative way by identifying emergant social needs and responding creatively

Policy

Seeking to understand the structures and systems that house community services and social events is key to working within them and potentially improving upon them. My interest in policy has come out of necessity rather than desire. Even still I have difficulty participating or even observing political affairs. I am growing in my stamina to as I see the imperative. I am especially passionate about education and advocating for postive changes that support the teachers and students within educational systems, which is intrinsically linked with many other systems. These are loaded topics in need of handling with great care. I work daily at stretching myself beyond my comfort zone while also respecting my edge as I find it!

Administration

During my Master degree studies, I had two internships. My first year was spent in an elementary school and my second year was with a program evaluation and development firm. I saw up close how important it is to have insider buy-in and inclusion during the planning and evaluation of any program or event. It was sobering to realize the complexities of the systems that aim to support and enrich our communities. Each of my internships were unique educational experiences, I loved each for very different reasons. One highlight at Mission View Elementary was coaching a Girls On The Run (GOTR) team. One highlight at LeCroy & Milligan Associates, Inc. was a project showcased here: The HFPI

Community

The ultimate goal of social work, along with many other fields, is to build communities into the most vibrant versions of themselves possible. Social programs aim to make the world a better place than how they found it, by producing positive outcomes according to its participants’ definition.  The tragedy is, as history shows, that good intentions are not enough. My social work studies acquainted me with Participatory Action Research (PAR)  which ensures the resources being offered matched the self-identified needs of the community served. Photovoice methodology was a focal point I took throughout my MSW, any assignment I could link to Photovoice I did. More details are available in my PAC ePortfolio —->

I am grateful that I could achieve a Master of Social Work (MSW) degree between 2015-2017, with the support of my family and friends. Doing so helped me build my professional capacities as well as heal on a personal level. Studying social work facilitated my process of utilizing personal experiences to inform and inspire my pursuit to be of use. I studied macro social work (versus direct practice) which placed the focus on Policy, Administration, and Community (PAC).
